Did you know the YHA in Franz Josef Glacier has one of the largest solar power systems on the West Coast and they’re carbon neutral? 🌱 It’s not just in Franz Josef however, the entire nationwide chain of YHA hostels and their national office are carbon neutral and they’re the first accommodation network worldwide to become carboNZero certified👍🌏 This is all thanks to a strong commitment to measuring, reducing, and offsetting their greenhouse gas emissions. The YHA commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there, they’re also involved in projects such as the Green Footprint Project and Clean Up NZ. At the Franz Josef hostel the solar system is made up of 108 square metres of photovoltaic panels, which generate 125 kilowatts on an average day and guests can charge their electric cars in the car park or their devices at the solar table in the garden all while enjoying quality budget accommodation, free sauna, free wifi, pool table and a fireplace for these cooler winter evenings ☺️🔥
