Department of Conservation - Franz Josef

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is a government agency charged with conserving New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. DOC visitor centres have the latest information and tips for visitors in New Zealand’s conservation areas.

The visitor centre is open every day (except Christmas Day) and their Rangers are on hand to warmly welcome visitors to the region.

Services include providing the latest information on walks, hikes, routes and weather in the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier areas, a free booking service for all activities, an assortment of digital media content and a full range of conservation products.

DOC Rangers love to share their insights and first hand knowledge of the region and to help visitors to find ways to get out and explore the West Coast's many incredible natural wonders.  Be sure to visit and join them in celebrating the West Coast's awesome natural heritage.
