Camping is a great way to experience Glacier Country, giving you the freedom to wake up surrounded by rainforest, mountains, lakes and coastlines. To help protect this special place, which sits within Te Wāhipounamu, South West New Zealand UNESCO World Heritage Area there is no freedom camping. We encourage all visitors to stay at designated campsites, using approved camping areas helps keep our landscapes pristine for future generations to enjoy.
Whether you’re travelling by campervan or pitching a tent there are a range of well-located camping options with easy access to walking tracks, cafés, local attractions and the villages of Franz Josef and Fox Glacier.
